Happy Mother's Day!

My mother's day started at about 1:00 a.m.
when Vanessa decided that she wanted to hang out
in my bed with me.
At about 4:00 a.m. a sippy cup hit me in the face
and Savannah crawled in between Eric and me.
My girls never sleep in our bed
but today they wanted to make sure I knew
that I was a mom and
that I was loved.I've been thinking lately about motherhood
and the fact that I am a real mom.
This very month was the one I was supposed to graduate with my
Doctorate of Audiology
if I had continued with my original plan when I got married.
I am not sad one bit that I am not walking across a stage to
be "robed" and starting a career.Instead of studying Anatomy and Physiology
I am making honking noises every time Vanessa touches my nose.
Instead of studying Acoustics
I am trying to teach Savannah to whisper instead of scream.
Instead of learning Electrophysiology
I am keeping fingers from electric sockets and hot stoves.

Instead of cleaning out wax out of old hairy ears
I am scrubbing tiny fingers and toes.

Instead of decoding Speech Perception
I am hearing "I love you mom."
I am so thankful to be a mom.
Even though Savannah painted her nails with a highlighter
and Vanessa dumped a bag of cereal on the floor this week.
Even though I vacuumed 20 times
and still need to do it again.
Even though I go to bed tired
and wake up tired.
I am so thankful to be a mom.
I am also thankful for my own mom
who still takes good care of me even today
and for my mother-in-law
who raised a wonderful man to be my husband.
Happy Mothers Day to all!
