Good bye cast!!

Hello arm!!!
Savannah got her cast taken off. We spent the afternoon at the park (one last chance with the arm protected) and then headed over to the orthopedic doctor. We took new x-rays and after waiting quite a while, the doctor brought in the saw to cut the cast off. Savvy was just thrilled... you know... a loud sharp saw coming straight for her vulnerable arm. Thankfully, she didn't scream the whole time and when it came off, she was pretty excited. She even high-fived the doctor with her left hand, which is a big deal since it's been immobile for so long. The doctor figured she wouldn't do anything with it for a few days.

The bone still looks bent on the x-ray, but the doctor says that it has built up a callus on the inside of the bend... when that gets hard, it'll whittle away the bump on the outside of the bend. Sounds crazy to me, but hopefully everything is better now! She'll wear a brace for a few weeks. The doctor wasn't going to give us one thinking that she wouldn't tolerate it, but I said that I wanted one... I don't want to have another hard cast around for as long as possible and Savvy was pretty good with the soft cast when she first broke her arm. I think it'll help us to remember not to grab her by her wrist or pull on that arm too. He told me to keep her pretty mellow for 2-4 weeks... and then even after that don't let her do things like jump off of the bed for up to a year! We both had a good laugh thinking of how easy that will be.

Congratulations on getting the cast off, I bet Savvy was more than thrilled to have that thing off her arm. What a brave little girl, I've never broken a bone, I'm pretty sure I would have been scared to death to have a cast sawed off my arm. We can't wait to see you guys!
