Why I do the things I do
Exhibit A: I have been diligent in collecting food storage for our home. The biggest change to our pantry was the purchase of a few 5-gallon buckets to hold our usable supply of flour, sugars, oats, etc. Savannah has been able to open the door to the pantry for a year now to reach a handful of snacks that are on the bottom shelves. This week she figured out that the new buckets work to her benefit in reaching all the things that I don't want her to get into.
Exhibit B: While I was sitting on the couch with Vanessa, Savvy was playing in her room and then came into the kitchen. Then I heard a loud noise, followed by Savvy falling to the ground crying, followed by loads of dust filling the house. She had grabbed the fire extinguisher and squeezed the handle. The safety pin was not in place (apparently it hasn't been there for over a year) and Savvy shot off a dry-chemical extinguisher into her face. Oh, what fun. I put Vanessa on the floor, grabbed Savvy and proceeded to rinse her face with water for the next 5 minutes.
Can you tell why I am working so hard to keep Savvy occupied with "wholesome" activities? Today's activity came from the Toddler's Busy Book again. Since there is no feasible way to play in a sandbox in our apartment, we made a bean box instead. I filled a large Tupperware (with a lid) with pinto and kidney beans and then added a few little containers to fill and pour. Savvy does have to be supervised a little bit so that beans don't end up everywhere, but she has loved it so far. The lid comes in handy when we're all done. I certainly don't want Vanessa getting into this one.
And we can't forget Vanessa. Even though she's been a snot-factory this week, she has been super happy. What a trooper! She has been extra interested in Savvy's water, so I gave her her own cup this morning. She wasn't too sure about it at first since it wasn't milk, but she continued to drink it up. She's working hard at sitting up and scooting--

I admire that your trying to give Savvy good things to do with her time. It looks like she is good at keeping you busy! Those girls are so cute, can't wait to see them soon.
Now those are some dang cute pictures of some dang cute girls. I love that one of them laying together.
Thanks for the great Busy Book ideas. Keep them coming. I still haven't made it to the library so I'm depending on you for my ideas. I'm loving them so far.
Those would get stuffed in ears, noses, and mouths at my house. I'm glad Savvy enjoyed it so much. Keeping kids occupied during the day is definitely a challenge. I've found the aquadoodle to be very convenient because they're able to draw unsupervised. Jack and Austin both enjoy it. Keep us posted on things that work for you.
I'm admiring your toddler "busy book" ideas. I think I need to borrow that book from the library when your done with it. In the mean time I will just copy what you post on your blog. Except the fire extinguisher thing.;) Hehe. Just glad I'm not alone.
I can't believe Vanessa's sitting up already! Time goes by too fast...
Love the bean box idea!! I may have to borrow that for preschool!
